Three Maryland men were arraigned Tuesday in Rappahannock County General District Court after they were caught driving 100 mph on Route 211 in March.
Shehzad Aslami, 19, and Zabiullah Razai, 24, both of College Park, and Bahram Rahmani, 22, of Glen Burnie, were pulled over March 20 near Battle Mountain Road after a Rappahannock County Sheriff’s deputy observed them traveling eastbound in three separate vehicles, each clocking 100 mph, according to court records.
On Tuesday, the defendants — all three charged with reckless driving by speed — were provided with court-appointed attorneys. During his arraignment, Rahmani told Judge Jessica Foster that he is a college student, and that he had to miss a final exam to appear in court. He asked if the process of resolving the charge could be quickened.
“Today is not your trial,” Foster replied. She told all three men to appear back in court on June 16 with their attorneys.

Ireland joined Foothills Forum as a full-time reporter in 2023 after graduating from the University of Georgia’s Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication with a degree in journalism and minor in music. As a student, she gained valuable experience in reporter and editor positions at The Red & Black, an award-winning student newspaper, and contributed to Grady Newsource and the Athens Banner-Herald. She spent three years as an editorial assistant at Georgia Magazine, UGA’s quarterly alumni publication, and interned with The Bitter Southerner.
Growing up in a small town in Southeast Georgia, Ireland developed a deep appreciation for rural communities and the unique stories they have to tell. She completed undergraduate research on news deserts, ghost papers and the ways rural communities in Georgia are being forced to adapt to a lack of local news. This research further sparked her interest in a career contributing to the preservation of local and rural news.
