Celebrating the Fourth of July has long been a highlight of summers in Rappahannock County. Sixteen years ago, the Sperryville Volunteer Fire Department (SVFD) took over the coordination of the county’s biggest Independence Day event, the highlight of which is an impressive 20-minute fireworks show.
But doing that safely and successfully is no easy feat. The SVFD team puts in months of hard work and planning ahead of the show that makes the whole thing possible. Foothills Forum followed along with the SVFD team in the final days leading up to the celebration as it prepared for its largest fundraiser of the year.
