Carrington’s paintings are a mix of landscapes and character explorations and are shaped by his parallel involvement in journalism and painting. His paintings recycle images from travel, memory and observation and draw on his own photographs, notes and sketches.
They don’t recreate a scene or episode so much as rhyme with it, keeping with the theme of the show. Paintings that draw heavily on memory present the echoes of a journey, where the evidence is sifted and rearranged through the filter of time.
