Motivating Spark: I wanted to get to know members of the community and help where I felt I could make a difference. Volunteering is a wonderful way to do both of those things.

Proudest Achievement: My marriage. Tom and I have been happily married for 58 years. We have two wonderful children and six beautiful grandchildren. On the volunteer front, spending untold hours on the phone and raising hundreds of dollars over the years for the RCHS Band.

Biggest Challenge: I don’t see my volunteer activities as a big challenge because I truly enjoy them. Staying fit in body and mind so I can do them — now that’s the challenge! Many of our volunteers are getting on in age. I hope the younger folks can step up and keep things going.

Why It Matters: So many of the programs that help members of our community wouldn’t exist if we didn’t have volunteers. They often make the difference as to whether a person or family in need gets help.

Favorite Rappahannock Treasure: The slower pace of life here, the calm and the quietness make this place so very special. And of course, the people, who I have always found to be easy-going, friendly and helpful.
