As authoritarianism spreads, threats to journalists are growing around the globe – and here at home. The number of journalists killed or jailed is near record highs. But journalists now face new threats from digital surveillance aimed at identifying and silencing their sources. At the same time, online harassment of journalists and their families is increasing, along with the number of credible death threats.
