As authoritarianism spreads, threats to journalists are growing around the globe – and here at home. The number of journalists killed or jailed is near record highs. But journalists now face new threats from digital surveillance aimed at identifying and silencing their sources. At the same time, online harassment of journalists and their families is increasing, along with the number of credible death threats.

Veteran journalist Andy Alexander, who reported from more than 50 countries and managed overseas reporters, talks about “The Growing Threats to Journalists” at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 24, at the Rappahannock Library.

Co-sponsored by Rapp at Home, RAAC and Foothills Forum.
