The Saturday morning before Thanksgiving at the Rappahannock Food Pantry is busy. Really busy. Dozens of volunteers show up every year to assemble meals for many more of their neighbors.

This busyness has become ordinary. But it’s extraordinary: The pantry expects to provide yummy, healthy Thanksgiving meals to about 195 local families this holiday — about 521 neighbors, moms, dads, kids.

There are big things ahead for the food pantry in 2024: A new building, vastly expanded, is scheduled to open in May.
